On October 7, Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov met with the UNDP Permanent Representative in Uzbekistan, Ms. Akiko Fujii.

The meeting discussed the results achieved within the framework of the Tashkent - Acceleration of Investments in Low-carbon Transport (TAILEV) project currently underway, as well as promising projects and initiatives.

In particular, Ms. Fuji highly appreciated the efforts being made in Uzbekistan to decarbonize the transport industry, develop public transport and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Ministry's role in ensuring gender equality in the industry was recognized by creating additional jobs in the transport sector and giving women the right to drive high-capacity buses.

UNDP representatives also visited the 8th bus park in Tashkent, where they got acquainted with electric buses and their power supply infrastructure.

At the same time, part of the electric buses purchased by JSC Toshshahartranshismat were partially funded by grant funds from the Global Environment Facility.
