From August 9 to 10, a summit-conference of women in the energy sector of Central Asian countries was held in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul region.

The conference is organized by the Association of Women in the Energy Sector of Kyrgyzstan together with the project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) "Energy of Central Asia".

The speakers were women working in the energy sector of Central Asian countries - Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, as well as representatives of ministries of energy, utilities, regulatory authorities, energy companies, universities and professional organizations.

The main purpose of this Summit is to exchange knowledge and experience, create opportunities for capacity building, establish connections, create a platform for women power engineers and specialists working in the energy sector to promote gender equality and social integration.

As a result of this event, women working in the energy sectors of Central Asian countries were able to share their experience and knowledge, as well as discuss common goals and barriers they face professionally and personally. Together, the participants were able to think about and discuss possible solutions and ways to increase the number of young women and girls entering the sphere in the future.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, more than 115 thousand people work in the fuel and energy complex of Uzbekistan, 13,458 of them are women - this is 11.6% of the total number. There are 367 women in leadership positions. This figure has increased by 30% over the previous year.
