In Uzbekistan, it is planned to reduce the number of car parks in the capital, and create more conditions for the development of public transport. The main argument was that "there is no land in Tashkent to increase the number of parking lots."

This was stated by Murad Abidov, director of the project office for the integrated development of the Tashkent transport system under the Ministry of Transport.

"We have identified priorities for the development of public transport to ensure high-quality provision of transport services to the needs of the population of our city. Work is underway to resolve haphazard, disorderly parking and, most importantly, to create the opportunity to get by public transport to places that can be reached by private transport in a guaranteed time," Abidov said.

Murad Abidov stressed that land in the capital is a limited resource. And the practice of reducing parking is the norm for large cities, so that a citizen's personal transport causes less damage to society.

"Someone's vehicle stands in one place from morning to night, it occupies the land of common use by residents of the city. The issue of turning disorderly parking lots into public spaces is being considered," the expert said.

According to the expert, the existing parking lots will also be involved in this direction, they intend to "put them in order". The goal: to reduce the number of cars on the roads, and create conditions for using public transport instead of personal.

"There are parking lots on the central streets of the city, occupying 1.5-2 lanes. A new system for regulating roadside parking will be developed and introduced as an experiment on 10 central streets of Tashkent. It is through this system that we promote the use of public transport instead of personal transport. The most inefficient way to use the land is considered to be parking cars from morning to night. Take any country from foreign experience, you will have to pay a huge amount of money to have a single car on the ground from morning to night," said a representative of the Ministry of Transport.

Murad Abidov noted that people occupying a space of 100 meters on cars can fit into one bus.

"The next priority will be given to cycling. If we give all the land for parking, we will not be able to create bike paths. In order to use the land efficiently, we will reduce the number of parking lots and increase the attractiveness of public transport," he said.
