The 12th plenary session of the Senate considered the Law "On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the improvement of the system of protection of children from violence."
It was noted that extensive work is underway in the country to improve the institutional and legal foundations for the reliable protection of children's rights, freedoms and legitimate interests.
At the same time, today there is a need to further strengthen the protection of children's rights, freedoms and legitimate interests, protect them from sexual violence and create clear mechanisms for involving them as witnesses in criminal proceedings.
This Law establishes responsibility for committing indecent acts against children using the Internet.
Amendments and additions are also being made to the Code of Criminal Procedure, establishing the total duration of the interrogation of a minor witness or victim for one day and the procedure for the participation of their legal representatives in the interrogation process.
According to the senators, this Law serves to prevent crimes, ensure the inevitability of punishment for crimes committed, as well as protect the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of children.
At the end of the discussion, the senators approved the law.
