On Monday, the first court session related to the discussion of organizational issues was held. The Constitutional Court said it would consider Yoon Seok-yeon's case as a priority among other impeachment cases. Earlier, the impeachment was announced to the Minister of Justice and a number of high-ranking officials. The President is not required to attend the meeting on December 27, which is scheduled to begin at 14:00 local time.
On December 14, Parliament announced the impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol, but the final decision remains with the Constitutional Court. He has 180 days to reach his verdict.
At the moment, three of the nine seats in the court are vacant. According to the law on the Constitutional Court, six judges must support Parliament in order to remove the president from power. It also stipulates that the quorum is at least seven judges. But in the autumn, on another occasion, the court temporarily allowed itself not to comply with this requirement in order to avoid downtime.
The acting chairman of the Constitutional Court said in December that six judges are enough to start hearings, but further discussions are needed to decide whether this is enough to reach a verdict in the case of impeachment of the president, reports tass.ru.
