The State Department announced the reopening of the embassy, which had been closed for seven years and required repairs.
A small group of American diplomats, who had been working temporarily from Colombia for some time, are now in Caracas.
"The reopening of the U.S. Embassy in Caracas is a vital step in implementing the President’s plan for Venezuela, allowing for direct engagement with the interim government, civil society, and the private sector," the State Department noted.
Work is still ongoing to restore the consular section, where U.S. and Venezuelan citizens will be able to access passport and visa services, reported by kazinform.
