Almost
1,600 ships, carrying a total of 20,000 sailors, are still blocked in the
Persian Gulf due to Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This is reported by
the American TV channel CNN.
The
American military operation Freedom to withdraw commercial vessels through the
strait, announced by US President Donald Trump, lasted 48 hours. Since Monday,
the US Navy has managed to withdraw only two ships from the Persian Gulf.
Companies
are unwilling to take on the risk of transit, as both cargo and personnel will
be at risk, the media writes.
Any damage
to the vessel, worth millions of dollars, will cause financial and logistical
losses to companies, since insurance contracts do not apply to situations
related to military operations.
Moving
ships without such financial support can be extremely expensive.

Exiting the
Strait of Hormuz, even with the escort of the US military, "requires
shipping companies to be much more confident in the safety of passage through
the strait before they take this step," said Gene Seroki, executive
director of the Port of Los Angeles.
