According to Indonesia's National meteorological agency (BMKG), the earthquake triggered a tsunami that affected five coastal areas. The greatest rise in the water level, up to 75 centimeters, was observed in the North Minahasa district, located in the north of the island of Sulawesi, writes RuNews24.
The main impact of the disaster was accompanied by a series of 11 aftershocks. The most intense aftershock had a magnitude of 5.5.
Representatives of local authorities report that residential and administrative buildings have been damaged in the affected areas. Work continues to assess the damage and provide assistance to the victims.
Local security services and rescuers urge residents of coastal areas to take precautions and follow the official recommendations of the authorities.
