On June 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with proposals for developing livestock industries.

Meat, eggs, milk, and their processed products are significant in the daily diet of the population. In this regard, measures are being taken to develop poultry, sheep, and goat farming and reduce food inflation. In addition, these industries provide significant employment opportunities and increase the income of the population.

For example, in 2023, 253 projects were implemented in the poultry industry, the number of such farms reached 1.3 thousand, and 4 thousand new jobs were created. It is planned to attract $420 million for promising projects from international organizations and banks.

At the presentation, responsible persons informed about the current year’s poultry development strategy and plans.

In particular, it was noted that this year, the volume of poultry production will increase from 700,000 tons to 800,000 tons, and egg production will increase from 8.5 billion to 10 billion.

The most important issue in this industry is genetics. Uzbekistan does not have a first-order reproducer for meat poultry. Second-order poultry is imported from Hungary.

An American company accounts for 80 percent of the world market for solutions in the genetics of agricultural poultry. A joint introduction of genetic technologies in poultry farming and the creation of breeding farms is planned.

Proposals for introducing a cluster system in poultry farming, developing ready-made business projects, and providing them to entrepreneurs were also discussed.

Additional opportunities to support the industry’s development have been identified. In accordance with this, poultry enterprises will be exempt from land tax for five years. The export of poultry meat will be allowed. The term for the return of $35 million of inexpensive resources provided to entrepreneurs will be extended by three years.

The Head of state also instructed expanding feed reserves and centralized delivery to poultry farms.

Currently, there are 39 farms in Uzbekistan engaged in karakul sheep breeding. More than 2 million hectares of pastures in Bukhara region contain 2 million heads of sheep. This, of course, is not enough.

In this regard, it was proposed to raise Karakul sheep based on household cooperation. In particular, in Karakul, Karaulbazar, Gijduvan, Peshku, Jandar, and Alat districts, the population will be provided with sheep, pastures, and wells. The areas for forage plants will be expanded.

Using such measures, the task has been set to increase the number of karakul sheep from 6 to 7 million heads.

During the President’s trip to Namangan region, instructions were given on the development of goat breeding. In accordance with this, purebred goats were brought from Türkiye and Russia, and a breeding goat cluster was created.

It was noted that, based on Mongolia’s experience, it is necessary to import 5,000 purebred goats to the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Namangan, and Tashkent regions for breeding. This will increase the goat number to more than 100,000 heads in two years.

Instructions were also given on improving breeding work in goat breeding, production, and export of cashmere and tweed from goat wool.
