A number of agreements have been reached with Turkmenistan and Iran on the development of transport cooperation

    As previously reported, on August 15-16 of this year, the International Conference of Ministers of Transport of Landlocked Countries on the theme "The Ashgabat process: to strengthen interdependence" was held in the National Tourist Zone of Turkmenistan "Avaza".

    The plenary session of the conference "Financing transport, development of ideas, experience, initiatives at the level of transport ministers for sustainable economic recovery after a global pandemic" was attended by the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkham Makhkamov, Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammethan Chakiyev, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates Suhail Al-Mazrui, The Minister of Transport and Road Facilities of Iran and the Minister of Urban Development Said Rustam Qasimi and the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrahim were present.

    Within the framework of the conference, the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov held bilateral talks with the Director General of the Turkmen Agency for Transport and Communications Mammethan Chakiyev and the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Said Rustam Qasimi on the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of transport and logistics, the provision of mutual benefits in cargo transportation and the creation of favorable conditions for national carriers.

    During the negotiations with M. Chakiyev, agreements were reached on the organization of intermodal cargo transportation to Turkey (via Lake Van) along the international transport and transit corridor "Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran" within the framework of the Ashgabat Agreement, reduction of fees for road transportation, simplification of the procedure for obtaining Turkmen visas by national drivers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

    During the negotiations with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, Said Rustam Qasimi, an agreement was reached on reducing the established fees and payments for international road transport, organizing pilot cargo road transport from the Chobahor port to Uzbekistan, developing transportation through Uzbekistan on the China-Europe transport route.

    Following the meetings, Transport Minister I. Makhkamov signed a five-sided memorandum of understanding on amendments and additions to the Ashgabat Agreement signed in 2011, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
