SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming: "The fight against terrorism will always be one of the priorities of the Shanghai Organization"

    On April 3, the 19th meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the SCO member states ended in Astana under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan.

    According to the SCO Secretariat, the two-day meeting was attended by the secretaries of the Security Councils and heads of the executive bodies of the Security Councils of the SCO member states, observer states (Belarus and Mongolia), SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming and Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO RATS Ruslan Mirzaev, reports news agency "Dunyo".

    Uzbekistan was represented by the Secretary of the Security Council to the head of our state, Viktor Makhmudov.

    At the beginning of the meeting, the SCO Secretary General expressed his condolences in connection with the terrorist attacks against civilians that took place this year in Iran, Russia and Pakistan.

    He noted: "Currently, the international security situation is complex and unstable, traditional and non-traditional security threats are intertwined, geopolitical risks are increasing, and terrorism, extremism and separatism continue to actively develop. All this seriously threatens global and regional peace and stability. The fight against terrorism will always be one of the priorities of the organization's activities, and we strive to strengthen cooperation between countries on this track."

    During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the issues of combating terrorism, extremism and separatism, strengthening cooperation in countering modern threats and challenges, and also touched upon issues in the field of regional security. Following the meeting, a protocol was signed.

    On the same day, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a separate meeting with the heads of delegations.

    The 20th meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the SCO member states will be held in 2025 in China.
