Germany will send 13 of its military personnel to the capital of Greenland, Nuuk, on January 15. This is reported in a statement by the Bundeswehr.

As noted, the German military, together with other European states, will participate in the reconnaissance mission from January 15 to 17 at the invitation of Denmark. They get there on an Airbus A400M transport plane.

"The aim is to study the framework conditions for possible military contributions in order to support Denmark in ensuring security in the region, in particular in maritime surveillance capabilities. On-site exploration will be conducted jointly with representatives of other partner countries," the Bundeswehr noted.

According to Bild, it is first planned to send an advance group of the Bundeswehr to Greenland, in particular, an intelligence unit to assess the situation and prepare for further deployment of forces.

It is also noted that Denmark has already announced a significant increase in its military presence in Greenland and expects similar steps from other European NATO members.

Although the military buildup there is formally taking place under the auspices of NATO, according to Bild, the coordination of the operation is carried out by Copenhagen, and not by representatives of the Alliance. This approach is explained by the lack of trust in the United States, which is why the operation is carried out without the participation of the American side. korrespondent.net.

"In Germany, the Ministry of Defense and, in a leading role, the Office of the Federal Chancellor are involved in the process. In addition to the training mission for mountain troops, the main candidates for participation are the naval and air forces," the media report says.
