This center was previously located in an old building. Four to five patients were in one ward, and sanitary rooms were shared. The building was not suitable for modern equipment.
As part of the implementation of the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On further strengthening public health protection in the Republic of Karakalpakstan in 2022-2024” of July 7, 2022, the quality and coverage of medical services are being improved.
In particular, in February this year, a new building of the Karakalpak branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care was put into operation in Nukus. This is the first multidisciplinary hospital in Karakalpakstan built “from scratch” in the years of independence.
The Head of state personally got acquainted with the conditions created here.
The new 4-storey building houses departments of emergency admission and diagnostics, resuscitation, surgery, neurosurgery, traumatology, cardiology, gynecology, pediatrics, laboratory diagnostics, and a procedure room. All departments are equipped with modern medical equipment.
The new complex has 130 beds and has all the conditions for patients and doctors. Each ward is designed for two people and has separate sanitary rooms.
Time plays a key role in saving the patient’s life. Therefore, the center has a triage department that sorts patients by the severity of the disease. The patient will not waste time and wander. Here, the doctor examines the patient, determines the needed assistance, and refers to the appropriate departments.
Previously, most patients who applied were hospitalized. Now, after specific medical procedures, depending on the patient’s condition, outpatient treatment is allowed at the place of residence.
Previously, patients with cardiovascular diseases were treated with simple examination methods. Now, the recently installed modern angiographic equipment gives good results in saving people’s lives. The cases of mortality and disability have sharply decreased.
As a result, some complex surgeries, previously performed only in Tashkent, are now performed here. In particular, for the first time in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, open heart surgeries were performed on five patients using an artificial blood circulation system.
Multispiral computed tomography, ultrasound, and laboratory equipment allow for early diagnosis of diseases. Telemedicine also helps treat patients from remote areas.
The Head of state drew attention to the issues of effective hospital management and the connection of practice with training.
“The new building and equipment are only part of the work. Now, it is necessary to introduce modern management into the center’s activities. It is advisable to urgently attract experienced doctors from countries with developed medicine, and improve our specialists’ qualifications abroad. In general, this center should function as a scientific and practical medical academy”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
It was noted that it is essential that doctors from district medical associations improve their qualifications in their specialty here and implement the experience gained in the districts.
It should be noted that in Karakalpakstan, in 2017-2024, 74 family medical centers, 81 family polyclinics, and 92 rural medical centers were created according to the “One Step” principle. 150 types of new technologies have been introduced in the regional branches of specialized centers. Every year, 4,500 patients receive high-tech care without the need to travel to Tashkent and abroad. In Turtkul, Kungrad and Chimbay districts, centers for combined injuries and acute vascular diseases have been created, where 11 thousand patients receive emergency and qualified medical care annually.
