Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan leaders note the importance of building up practical cooperation

    President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, in Baku.

    The Leader of Azerbaijan sincerely thanked the President of Uzbekistan for his support and personal participation in the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement to be held on March 2, in the country’s capital.

    Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in turn, highlighted the effective chairmanship of Azerbaijan in this structure.

    The Presidents reviewed in detail the implementation of the agreements reached the highest level. It was noted with deep satisfaction that thanks to systemic and productive contacts, the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan has reached a qualitatively new level, filled with concrete content.

    Last year, the trade turnover between the two countries increased by more than 50 percent. The implementation of cooperation projects in such priority areas as automotive, textile, and sericulture is in the active phase. Preparations are underway for promising projects in the oil and gas sector, transport, and logistics.

    As part of the First Forum of Regions held in Tashkent in February this year, an Agreement on establishing a joint Investment Fund was signed.

    The interest in the exchange of experience in the development of the activities of free economic zones and the system of tax administration was noted.

    The importance of further enhancing cultural and humanitarian exchanges was emphasized.

    The heads of state discussed current international and regional issues and considered a schedule of the upcoming events.

    The meeting took place in a traditionally open, warm, and friendly atmosphere.
