The Presidents of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea confirm their commitment to further strengthening the relations of special strategic partnership

    A meeting between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol took place at the Kuksaroy Residence in a contracted format.

    The President of Uzbekistan warmly welcomed the guest and sincerely congratulated him on the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the fifth anniversary of the special strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Korea.

    At the meeting, issues of further enhancing practical interaction in political, trade, economic, technological, and other priority areas were discussed.

    The Republic of Korea is among Uzbekistan’s leading trade and investment partners. Last year, trade turnover reached $2.5 billion, and Korean investment exceeded $7.5 billion. The tourist flow is growing. Tashkent and Seoul are connected by ten flights a week.

    An agreement was reached on the formation of a new partnership model to more efficiently use potential, identify, and promote large high-tech cooperation projects.

    The fruitful development of cultural and humanitarian exchange was highly appreciated. Four branches of leading Korean universities successfully operate in the country. In turn, over 11,000 students from Uzbekistan study in South Korea.

    The Korea Culture House, the Multidisciplinary Children’s Clinic, the Seoul Garden, and Seoul Street in Tashkent became real symbols of friendship and partnership.

    The presidents stated the importance of further mutual support within international organizations.

    Views were also exchanged on regional cooperation issues, including in the “Central Asia – Republic of Korea” format.

    Establishing close contacts in security and defense, particularly in the fight against cybercrime, terrorism, and extremism, received special attention.
