During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to further strengthening strategic cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN Tourism, promoting the principles of sustainable tourism development, enhancing the competitiveness of tourism destinations, developing human capital, and expanding international and regional cooperation.

Special attention was paid to preparations for the official launch of “2027 — the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism”. It is planned that the official launch ceremony will take place in November 2026 in Tashkent as part of the Tashkent International Tourism Fair “Tourism on the Silk Road”.

The initiative to hold the opening ceremony in Uzbekistan was put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on April 1, 2026, during a meeting with the leadership of UN Tourism.

An important outcome of the negotiations was the signing of an Agreement on holding the official opening ceremony of “2027 — the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism.” The document creates the necessary legal and organizational framework for the practical preparation for the event, as well as for coordinating the measures implemented by Uzbekistan and UN Tourism.

The holding of the opening ceremony in Tashkent will contribute to promoting the principles of sustainable and resilient tourism at the international level. At the same time, this significant international event will become an important platform for further strengthening Uzbekistan’s active participation in shaping the global tourism agenda and developing international cooperation within the framework of 2027.

During the meeting, the SecretaryGeneral also reported that the process of developing the Code of Safe Tourism, initiated by the Head of State, is under her personal supervision. According to her, work with states and international experts in this area is currently accelerating.
