Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan meets with EU Special Representative

    Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov received the newly appointed EU Special Representative for Central Asia Terhi Hakala.

    According to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, the parties discussed the state and prospects of political, trade, economic, investment, financial, technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU.

    Further steps to enhance multifaceted cooperation were considered.

    The format of interaction on holding joint events to raise awareness of the country’s businesspeople on the effective use of the advantages of the EU Generalized System of Preferences GSP+, as well as on providing technical assistance to Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO was discussed. Priority measures to accelerate the preparation of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union were also discussed.

    The European side expressed its readiness to provide further support to Uzbekistan, including through financial and technical assistance for the implementation of large-scale socio-economic reforms.
