"The Football Association of Uzbekistan has studied and analyzed a number of candidates for the post of head coach of the national team, held talks with experienced local and foreign specialists. The recommendations presented by the coaching council were also considered in detail.
Considering that there is little time left before the decisive matches of the World Cup qualifying tournament, the association chose Timur Kapadze, who is well acquainted with the team and the players, played for the national team for a long time, worked as a head and assistant coach, and also achieved a historic result with the Olympic team of Uzbekistan," the AFU said in a statement.
It is noted that the national team of Uzbekistan is currently holding a training camp in Qatar. Timur Kapadze has already joined the national team and started managing the team.
Since 2019, Timur Kapadze has been the head of the Uzbekistan U-19 national team. In this position, he replaced Srechko Katanets, who left the post for health reasons.
