On March 9, cyber studies were held in Tashkent, dedicated to current problems and threats to cybersecurity in the financial sector of Uzbekistan. Cyber studies were organized by the Central Bank (CB) of the Republic of Uzbekistan jointly with Kaspersky Lab.

The main cyber threats to the financial sector of Uzbekistan were considered at the event. Opening the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Ilkhomjon Abdukhalilovich Abdugafarov noted that the cybersecurity of the Central Bank is at the highest level among all state structures of Uzbekistan.

According to the results of the 4th quarter of 2022, announced by the State Unitary Enterprise "Cybersecurity Center", the Central Bank received the first place and 99 points for the state of information security and cybersecurity. However, at the level of commercial banks, cybersecurity problems persist. In order to ensure cyber protection of the financial sector, the Central Bank's Cybersecurity Center (CERT-CBU) was established in 2021, and the Center's website was launched at the end of last year.

"The stability of the banking system is the key to further modernization of the country's economy, and in this regard, the prevention of cyber-attacks is a matter of national security. We are actively working in the field of ensuring cybersecurity of the country's financial sector and plan to further strengthen our work in this direction," the representative of the Central Bank said.

According to the data of the State Unitary Enterprise "Cybersecurity Center" in 2021 alone, about 1.3 million cyberattacks occurred on sites in the "uz" segment, and therefore the topic of cybersecurity, financial fraud issues are very relevant for Uzbekistan.

Recently, cases of financial fraud have become more frequent, such as embezzlement of citizens' funds, obtaining the right to dispose of funds on bank cards using social engineering.

"The issues of cyber threats have become very relevant for the financial sector of Uzbekistan. During the cyber studies, we examined the cyber-immune approach to building the bank's information security. Also at the event, a special place was paid to the issues of cybersecurity compliance by bank employees, since a significant part of all cyber incidents are related to the human factor," commented Valery Zubanov, Managing Director of Kaspersky Lab in Kazakhstan, Central Asia and Mongolia.

Within the framework of the event, various solutions of Kaspersky Lab were considered to minimize risks and prevent cyber threats in the financial sector.
