During the negotiations, it was noted that the volume of mutual trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkey amounted to 2.4 billion US dollars. The parties stressed the need to use all possible measures to bring this figure to $ 5 billion, according to the Dune news agency.
In particular, Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Mustafa Tuzju noted that there are significant reserves and new opportunities to achieve these goals. According to him, the commodity range of foreign trade between Uzbekistan and Turkey is similar in many ways, and the products produced in both countries are highly competitive in foreign markets.
It was also stressed that Turkey, along with Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Iran, has signed a Preferential trade Agreement with Uzbekistan. The effective use of the potential of this agreement, in the opinion of the Turkish side, will make it possible to successfully implement the planned plans.
Special attention was paid to the elimination of tariff and non-tariff barriers faced by domestic exporters. In particular, they discussed the possibility of reducing additional import duties on products from the electrical, textile, and cable and wire industries, as well as lifting restrictions on imports of certain types of fruit and vegetable products.
The parties also focused on the need to intensify the work of the working group on trade and agreed to hold its next meeting in due course.
Following the meeting, the Turkish side noted the significant experience in the development and implementation of preferential and free trade agreements, expressing its readiness to cooperate in this area by increasing institutional capacity, developing professional qualifications of specialists and providing methodological support.
