On September 7, a working meeting was held in the city of Cholpon-Ata with the participation of the Ministers of Energy and Water Resources of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, during the negotiations, issues of ensuring stable operation of the water and energy systems of the three countries in the autumn-winter period, as well as further deepening cooperation in this area were discussed.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold regular meetings of the permanent working group and signed the relevant protocols.

According to the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan has signed a protocol on the supply of electricity to Kazakhstan in the amount of about 900 million kWh in the period from March to December 2026. This amount is intended to cover projected deficits in the southern energy zone of the country during repairs at power plants.

"The signed protocols are working documents with specific figures, deadlines and prices. We have fixed the technical terms of delivery and settled the current issues. Kazakhstan fulfills its obligations and expects a similar approach from its partners. This is the basis for the stability of energy systems and water supply for the entire region," commented Yerlan Akkenjenov, Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan.

The agreements reached will help reduce risks in the upcoming autumn-winter period and ensure predictable conditions for water accumulation by the next growing season, which is an important factor for the agricultural sector in southern Kazakhstan.
