The decision was made at the initiative of the Ministry for the Promotion of "Virtue and the Prevention of Vice," which dissolved the Afghan Chess Federation and suspended all chess-related activities.
A few days ago, Afghan chess players applied to the Ministry of Sports for financial support, but instead of help, they learned about a complete ban on their activities. Representatives of the ministry confirmed the suspension of chess classes, stating that "until suitable answers to religious questions are found, this sport will remain banned," Mir24 reports.
Chess has a long tradition in Afghanistan, where it was once a popular pastime. However, now, according to the authorities, they have fallen into the category of "haram" - forbidden activities. This decision continues a series of restrictions in the field of sports and entertainment introduced after the Taliban came to power.
