The event was attended by the Mayor of Mazar-I-Sharif, Abdulrahman Hemmat, the head of the representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Balkh province, Aminullah Sadik, employees of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Mazar-I-Sharif, as well as representatives of the media and the public.
The Mayor of Mazar-I-Sharif, Abdulrahman Hemmat, stressed that the Afghan people deeply respect the personality of the great thinker, poet and statesman. He informed about the decision to restore and beautify the monument to Alisher Navoi, located at the crossroads of urban communications.
A more extensive plot of land will be allocated for the new complex compared to the previous one. It is planned to install a memorial plaque in Uzbek, English, Dari and Pashto, reflecting the biography, life path and good deeds of the scientist as a statesman.
"We will turn this monument into a worthy place to visit for local residents and foreign tourists," the mayor promised.
According to Abdulrahman Hemmat, currently 40 large, medium and small projects are planned to be implemented in the city of Mazar-I-Sharif. Among them is the restoration of monuments to world-famous scientists such as Alisher Navoi, Makhtumkuli Fragi and Jaloliddin Muhammad Balkhi.
Speaking about cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, he stressed that the Imam al-Bukhari madrasah, which is being built in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif with the support of the government of Uzbekistan, will be a worthy gift from the fraternal Uzbek people to the Afghan people.
In turn, the Consul of Uzbekistan in Mazar-I-Sharif, Jafar Fattayev, noted that the fruitful work begun in Afghanistan on the restoration of the monument and the improvement of its surroundings is evidence of the respect shown to this great Uzbek scientist in Afghanistan.
He also briefly spoke about the works of the thinker and his worthy contribution to the development of religious, cultural and educational spheres.
After the official ceremony, a short meeting was held with the Mayor of Mazar-I-Sharif, during which the parties exchanged views on the projects planned for implementation.
