Before the start of the competition, the next Congress of the International Weightlifting Federation was held. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Sports, First Deputy Chairman of the country's Weightlifting Federation Shakhrullo Mahmudov on behalf of Uzbekistan.
During the Congress, the goals of the international organization for the new Olympic cycle were discussed. The delegates' attention was particularly attracted by the weight categories that will be active at the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics.
According to this, at the Games in the USA, there will be 16 weight categories, 8 for men and the same number for women. Recall that at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics there were 10 weight categories (5 for men and 5 for women).
