The ceremony was attended by Aziz Abdukhakimov, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues, Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, and Claude Gascon, Director General and Director of Strategy and Operations at the Global Environment Facility.

The ceremony became a symbol of the beginning of one of the largest international environmental events, bringing together representatives of states, international organizations, financial institutions and environmental experts from around the world.

After the official part, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Secretariat of the Global Environment Facility and the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Climate Change.

The document is aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and provides for the creation of internship and professional exchange opportunities for employees of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change in the GEF Secretariat.

Within the framework of the memorandum, the parties also agreed to develop cooperation in the fields of climate change, biodiversity conservation, combating land degradation, chemicals and waste management, as well as strengthen institutional ties between international and national environmental structures.

The holding of the Eighth GEF Assembly in Uzbekistan confirms the country's growing role in promoting the global environmental agenda and developing international cooperation in the field of sustainable development.
