The event
was attended by Sarah Rogers, US Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy,
Gayane Umerova, Chairman of the Foundation for the Development of Culture and
Art of Uzbekistan, and Jonathan Henick, US Ambassador to Uzbekistan.
The project
is being implemented with the support of the US Ambassadors Fund for the
Preservation of Cultural Heritage (AFCP) and is designed for three stages.
Its main
goal is to preserve the historical appearance of the Sherdor Madrasah,
including unique mosaics, majolica, decorative elements and kufic inscriptions,
as well as to develop the professional skills of specialists in the field of
restoration.
During the
ceremony, the results of the first stage of work were presented.
In
addition, the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan
and the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan signed a five-year roadmap for cooperation
aimed at implementing joint projects in the field of culture and the
preservation of cultural heritage.
