On April 14 of this year, the 18th meeting of the Uzbekistan-European Union Parliamentary Cooperation Committee was held in the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.

During the meeting, priority areas for further expansion and strengthening of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union were discussed.

It was noted that cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the European Union has significantly intensified in recent years. A striking example of this was the first Central Asia-European Union summit, held on April 4-5, 2025 in Samarkand. It was emphasized that the results of the summit are of particular importance, as they have brought relations between the two regions to a new, strategic level.

The meeting of the Committee also discussed issues of strengthening economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, supporting entrepreneurship, improving the investment climate, as well as deepening ties in the field of education. In particular, the importance of expanding opportunities for Uzbek youth to receive education in European countries through the Erasmus+ program was noted.

In addition, the issues of studying the experience of the European Union countries in combating cybercrime and cooperation in ensuring information security were considered.

During the meeting, prospects for cooperation in ensuring environmental stability, in particular, mitigating the consequences of the environmental crisis in the Aral Sea region, were discussed. Joint initiatives on effective water resources management and the implementation of regional environmental projects were announced.

Representatives of the European Union highly appreciated the reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at protecting human rights, establishing the rule of law, developing civil society, ensuring gender equality and increasing women's participation in public and political life.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold a regular meeting of the Uzbekistan-European Union Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in the first half of 2026.
