The next round of Uzbek-Lithuanian political consultations took place in Tashkent

    On September 22, 2022, the next round of consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Lithuania took place in Tashkent.

    The delegations, headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Gayrat Fozilov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantos Adomenas, discussed the state and prospects of bilateral relations in various areas of mutual interest.

    M. Adomenas said that Lithuania highly appreciates the implementation of the Development Strategy of the New Uzbekistan and the work carried out within its framework to improve the welfare of the people, transform economic sectors, ensure human rights and interests, strengthen international cooperation.

    The commitment of Uzbekistan and Latvia to strengthening constructive political dialogue through the organization of mutual visits and intensification of contacts at all levels was confirmed.

    The parties agreed on the need to activate the Uzbek-Lithuanian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic cooperation. It is proposed to hold a regular meeting of the Commission in 2023 in Tashkent with the organization of a joint business forum within its framework.

    It was noted that there are opportunities for organizing the supply of a wide range of products from Uzbekistan to the Lithuanian market, including textile and chemical products, building materials, mineral fertilizers, fruits, vegetables, etc.

    Proposals were considered to strengthen contacts between Chambers of Commerce and Industry, cities and regions of the two countries, to provide transport and customs preferences and benefits on a mutual basis, to diversify labor migration flows, and to increase tourist exchanges.

    The parties agreed to study the issues of establishing an exchange of experience and holding joint events in the fields of education, healthcare, opening branches of Lithuanian universities in Uzbekistan, organizing mutual internships of specialists, teachers and students.

    The readiness of Uzbekistan and Latvia to continue close dialogue and mutual support within the framework of the UN, OSCE and other international institutions was confirmed, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
