Uzbek-Iranian Business Forum held in Tehran

    An Uzbek-Iranian Business Forum was held in Tehran on May 11. The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Reza Aref.

    It was noted that such events would contribute to the deepening of trade and economic ties and the opening of new areas of cooperation.

    As already mentioned, there is stability in mutual trade. In particular, the volume of trade reached 500 million dollars, and the number of joint ventures exceeded 210.

    Existing reserves were deeply analyzed, new growth points were identified, and a total portfolio of projects and trade agreements worth $1 billion was formed.

    In his speech, the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan drew the attention of the participants to the results of the large-scale reforms implemented in our country under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to improve the business environment and create favorable conditions for foreign investors, and highlighted the following.

    In particular, the gross domestic product has doubled in the last period. Recently, the International Monetary Fund confirmed that our country's gross domestic product has exceeded $100 billion for the first time.

    We intend to increase this figure to $160 billion over the next five years. According to the results of the first quarter of 2025, the growth rate of our country's economy amounted to 6.8%.

    In recent years, Uzbekistan has absorbed more than $70 billion in foreign investments. More than $14 billion of funds from international financial institutions have been attracted to the social and infrastructural spheres.

    By 2030, it is planned to increase the share of "green" energy sources in energy production to 50%.

    Uzbekistan is country rich in minerals and has large reserves of rare minerals.

    Important decisions were made to support the business. As a result, more than two hundred licenses and permits were cancelled, the total number of taxes was reduced from 13 to 9, and the cost of some was halved.

    The foreign exchange market has been liberalized, and all restrictions on income repatriation have been lifted. The value added tax rate has been reduced from 15 to 12 percent. Income tax is set at 5 to 15 percent, depending on the type of activity.

    Enterprises operating in the agricultural and social sectors are fully exempt from paying income tax.

    Our country produces 25 million tons of high-quality fruits and vegetables annually. Fruits, vegetables, and food products worth $2.5 billion are exported annually.

    It was also announced at the event that our country has a preferential trade system with many countries around the world, and Iranian businessmen were invited to take full advantage of the industrial zones in Khorezm and Samarkand regions.

    For reference: the Uzbek-Iranian business Forum was attended by more than 100 entrepreneurs, representatives of ministries and departments of our country with their advanced proposals and initiatives in various fields, held negotiations in the "B2B" format.
