    Uzbekistan is taking measures to detect and prevent the spread of smallpox among the population early.

    This was announced by the head of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Rustamjon Ikromov.

    Monkeypox is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus. The disease spreads through contact with infected people.

    On August 14, WHO declared a state of emergency due to a new wave of the Clade 1b strain of monkey pox spreading in Africa.

    Typical symptoms of monkey pox are rash, fever, headache, muscle pain, back pain, throat pain, general weakness and enlarged lymph nodes. Most people recover completely, but in some cases the disease is severe.

    In case of penetration of this disease into the territory of the country, the following urgent measures have been taken:

    - a reserve of beds and necessary medicines has been created for hospitalization in infectious diseases hospitals;

    - the procedure for medical supervision of those who have been in contact with the patient for 21 days has been determined;

    - increased vigilance of sanitary control specialists at international airports, railway and automobile border crossings to prevent the penetration and spread of the disease from the outside;

    - the qualification of specialists has been improved on the basis of methodological guidelines on the etiology, clinic, epidemiology and prevention of smallpox in monkeys.

    A reserve of test diagnostics is also being created for laboratory detection of the disease.
