China prepares to build world's first nuclear-powered container ship

    China's state-owned Jiangnan Shipyard company has announced plans to build the world's first nuclear-powered container ship.

    The South China Morning Post newspaper reported this. The project envisages the construction of a giant ship with a capacity of 25,000 containers, powered by a thorium reactor designed to operate for 40 years.

    According to the company's Vice President, construction could begin within approximately ten years. At the same time, Jiangnan is preparing to invest in specialized shipyards capable of building nuclear commercial vessels, reported by korrespondent.net.
