Khiva is a tourist city of the Islamic world

    An international event was held in the Ichan-Kala complex of the city of Khiva under the motto "Khiva is a tourist city of the Islamic world". It was attended by representatives of the secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), its experts, the leadership of the Committee on Tourism and the Khokimiyat of the Khorezm region, as well as representatives of the media.

    For reference: at the XI Session of the Ministers of Tourism of the OIC Member States, held on June 27-29, 2022 in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, the city of Khiva was awarded the status of "Tourist City of the Islamic World" in 2024.

    At the meeting, the head of the delegation of Uzbekistan - Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov made a presentation on the policy of openness in the field of tourism, simplification of the visa regime, preservation of cultural heritage, improvement of historical cities pursued by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Special attention was paid to the reforms and the history, culture and tourism potential of the city of Khiva.

    Such recognition will make it possible to develop domestic and foreign tourism, build new infrastructure facilities, museums and expositions, and increase the volume of exports of tourist services.

    "Awarding Khiva the status of a tourist city of the Islamic world by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will make Khiva more famous in the international tourism market as a tourist destination," said Jamshid Abdusalamov, First Deputy Chairman of the Tourism Committee.

    Khiva, one of the most remarkable cities in Central Asia, is the only rare monument in the region that has been preserved intact. It is famous for its ancient monuments and attracts tourists from all over the world. On December 12, 1990, the city of Khiva was the first in Central Asia to be included in the World Heritage List by a special decision of the XIV session of UNESCO in Canada.

    "It is well known that in the past Khiva was considered a center of culture and science," said Ahmad Kavesa Sangendo, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

    Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ahmad Kavesa Sengendo presented the Khokim of Khiva with a certificate in connection with awarding the city the status of a "Tourist city of the Islamic World" in 2024.

    In May 2024, the XII session of the Ministers of Tourism of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will be held in Khiva.
