UNFPA welcomes reforms in Uzbekistan

    The Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations, Ulugbek Lapasov, met in New York with Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the Population Fund (UNFPA).

    During the meeting, a thorough exchange of views took place on the current state and prospects for deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNFPA, the Dunyo news agency reports.

    The Head of UNFPA noted with satisfaction the accumulated rich experience of cooperation with Uzbekistan in the field of women's empowerment, gender equality, demographic sustainability and maternal health. She highly appreciated the successes achieved by Uzbekistan in recent years in these areas.

    The parties positively noted the results of the meeting of the leadership of the National Agency for Social Protection under the President of Uzbekistan at UNFPA in November this year in New York. The commitment to further development of cooperation within the framework of the signed memorandum of understanding between the agency and UNFPA was confirmed.

    Upcoming joint and international events in the field of population were also discussed.
