Geomagnetic disturbances originating from a coronal hole on the Sun are expected this Friday evening, potentially leading to minor and moderate magnetic storms. According to the Space Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the velocity of the solar wind stream approaching Earth is projected to increase within the next 24 hours, subsequently raising geomagnetic indices.
The source of these disturbances is a massive, unusually shaped coronal hole that resembles a "giant crack" stretching from the Sun's southern to northern poles. This hole has existed for some time and crossed the visible side of the solar disk approximately one month ago, reported by report.az.
