Egypt is looking for allies to create an Arab equivalent of NATO

Egypt hopes to enlist the support of Arab countries to create a military alliance, following the example of NATO, that can protect countries facing an attack. This was reported on September 13 by The Times of Israel newspaper with reference to the report.

The report notes that the proposal to create an analogue of NATO was first made about nine years ago, but was not implemented, and the return to discussion of this initiative is indirectly related to Israel's strike on Qatar.

It is reported that Cairo proposes to include about 20,000 of its military personnel in the armed forces and is working on developing a mechanism by which such forces will be deployed, "allowing them to be used if necessary and shaping them in such a way that it corresponds to the population of Arab countries and their armed forces."

The Egyptian official, on condition of anonymity, said that Egypt wants to take a leading position in a potential alliance, giving Saudi Arabia second place and one of the Gulf states third. iz.ru.
