At the meeting, procedures carried out when export cargoes from Uzbekistan arrive in Iraq, the Value Added Tax (VAT), and existing payments besides customs duties were discussed. The parties exchanged views on the existence of separate customs tariffs for states during the export of products to Iraq, the establishment of cooperation between the customs committees of the two countries, and the development of a corresponding agreement in this regard.
Ideas were also exchanged on establishing a "green corridor" system for the export of food, fruit, and vegetable products from Uzbekistan to Iraq, and dates and other types of products from Iraq to Uzbekistan. Furthermore, they discussed easing customs inspections for products brought to Baghdad to be displayed in the Uzbekistan pavilion of the "Baghdad International Fair."
In turn, the interlocutor stated that in Iraq, only customs and VAT payments exist, and these are controlled by the Iraq Customs Committee. Customs tariffs in Iraq are set the same for all countries. Specific tariffs exist only with Jordan. The interlocutor emphasized that it is first advisable to sign a memorandum of understanding between the customs committees of Uzbekistan and Iraq. It was noted that the Ministry of Trade of Iraq is responsible for the "green corridor" issue for Uzbek goods.
