Israel proposes to create Palestine in Europe

The speaker of the Israeli Knesset, Amir Ohana, said that countries wishing to recognize a Palestinian state should create it in their own capitals, and not in the territories of Palestine.

The speech took place at the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in Geneva, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

"If you want a so-called Palestinian state, create it in London, Paris, in your countries," Ohana said, asking colleagues from other countries to "choose the truth over propaganda."

"The so-called peace that some European countries advocate will only lead to an even bigger war. But the war we are waging will lead to peace," the Israeli statesman said.

The statement was made in response to recent moves by European countries to recognize Palestine. On Tuesday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that London may recognize a Palestinian state in September if Israel does not end the humanitarian blockade in Gaza and does not take steps towards peace.

France had previously promised to recognize the Palestinian state without conditions, and Malta followed suit. Since October 2023, Norway, Jamaica, Spain, Ireland, Armenia, the Bahamas, Slovenia, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago have already recognized Palestine, trt.global reports.
