China has completed the assembly of the world's largest floating offshore wind farm with a capacity of 16 MW, the South China Morning Post reports. Its installation took place in the city of Beihai in the south of the country.
The turbine rotor has a diameter of 252 meters. It is expected that the plant will annually produce about 44.7 million kWh of electricity, which is enough to provide more than 4,000 average households.
By comparison, the world's first commercial floating wind farm with five turbines and a total capacity of 30 MW began operating off the coast of Scotland eight years ago.
The project is being implemented by the state-owned China Three Gorges Corporation, known as the world's largest developer and operator of hydroelectric power plants, which once built the giant Three Gorges dam. korrespondent.net.
