South Korea's Constitutional Court rejects impeachment of Prime Minister Han Dok-soo

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Korea has rejected a motion to impeach Prime Minister Han Dok-soo, despite arguments from the National Assembly (Parliament).

Han Dok-soo was reinstated and regained the status of acting President. The decision was announced on March 24, TASS reported, citing the court's press service.

Of the eight judges, only one supported the impeachment, five opposed, and two considered the motion unfounded due to the lack of formal grounds.

Parliament impeached the Prime Minister on December 27, 2024, accusing him of five violations, including aiding or abetting rebellion in connection with the imposition of martial law on December 3. Han Dok-soo denies the charges, claiming that he opposed martial law and tried to dissuade President Yoon Seok-young from this step. mir24.tv.
