"The giant iceberg A23a has run aground and continues to drift in the waters of the Southern Ocean. During the first days of June, under the influence of ocean currents, ice glacier A23a shifted 60 km eastward and is now located 74 km from the uninhabited island of Annenkova," the press service of the RIA Novosti News Agency reported.

The iceberg broke off from the Antarctic ice shelf in 1986. It was stranded for more than 30 years, and in 2023 it began to drift. At the end of 2023, the area of the A 23a was estimated at about 4 thousand square kilometers. As of the beginning of June 2025, it has decreased to 2.7 thousand square kilometers, AANI said.
