The meeting was attended by Dr. Tristram Hunt, Director General of the V&A, Mariam Rosser-Owen, Curator of the Museum's collection for the Middle East, Nick Marchand, Director of the Department of International Programs, and Evgenia Ravtsova, Coordinator of International Initiatives.
During the talks, the possibilities of developing cooperation between the V&A and relevant state organizations of Uzbekistan in the field of culture, museums, galleries, scientists and artisans, developing joint long-term projects for the study of museum artifacts, conducting scientific research, including on the collections of artifacts of the Victoria and Albert Museum were discussed.
The establishment of V&A with museums of Uzbekistan, exchange of experience in the field of museum business development, organization of advanced training courses for museum workers, holding and participation in exhibitions of culture and art are identified as promising areas of cooperation.
During the visit to the museum, the Embassy delegation also got acquainted with part of the collection of almost 300 historical artifacts stored in the V&A Museum and related to the history and culture of Uzbekistan.
Representatives of the Victoria and Albert Museum have expressed interest in visiting Uzbekistan to hold talks with relevant departments and museums, as well as to participate in the 2nd International Festival of Crafts in the city of Kokand in September 2022, the Dunyo news agency reports.
For reference: Victoria & Albert Museum is the world's largest museum of applied and decorative arts, design and sculpture. It was created by a legislative act of the British Parliament in 1852 in honor of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. It has a collection of about 3 million items, more than 145 thematic galleries. The number of annual visitors to the museum exceeds 4.5 million people.
