On March 5, Tashkent hosted a meeting of the government delegations of Uzbekistan and Georgia led by Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze.

In recent years, friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Georgia, based on the principles of mutual trust and respect, have been steadily developing in all areas. Cooperation in various sectors of the economy is intensifying, the volume of mutual trade is growing, and joint projects are being implemented. Cultural, humanitarian and interregional ties are expanding.

It was stressed that the main task facing the Governments is the timely implementation of the agreements reached and the development of new proposals for the development of bilateral relations.

The main focus was on three areas: the further development of trade and economic ties, the expansion of investment and cooperation projects, as well as the improvement of the transport and logistics system.

During the meeting, it was noted that the volume and structure of trade turnover do not yet correspond to the potential of the two countries. It was emphasized that the full use of the opportunities of the Free Trade Agreement between Uzbekistan and Georgia will bring the volume of trade to $ 1 billion in the coming years.

To achieve this goal, it is proposed to expand trade in textiles, footwear and leather products, electrical equipment, foodstuffs, non-ferrous and ferrous metals, fruits and vegetables, chemical products, building materials and other goods.

In addition to trade, economic and investment cooperation, the meeting participants discussed strengthening cooperation in the fields of agriculture, transport and logistics, education, tourism, as well as culture and humanitarian exchanges, stressing that this meets the interests of both countries.

The importance of interregional cooperation as a significant factor in bilateral relations was also noted. In this context, they expressed confidence that the establishment of direct partnerships between Samarkand and Batumi, Bukhara and Mtskheta will make a significant contribution to the development of trade and economic ties between the states.

Tashkent also hosted the tenth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Georgia. Within its framework, the following documents were signed: the Protocol of the tenth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of public procurement, and a Roadmap for the development of cooperation in agriculture.
