The parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan in Geneva took part in the third conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement

    The parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan headed by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis in Geneva took part in the Third Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement on the topic: "Intensification of parliamentary activities in the fight against climate change."

    During the conference, which was attended by 53 delegations of parliaments participating in the organization and international structures, a number of strategies and approaches aimed at strengthening the role of parliaments in countering climate change were discussed.

    It was noted that climate change remains one of the global problems of our time, requiring collective action. Today's decisions will have a long-term impact on future generations.

    Attention is focused on the need for joint efforts of parliaments in the development of model laws aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, raising public awareness, as well as promoting international cooperation in the field of sustainable environmental policy.

    In her speech, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis noted, first of all, the need for parliaments of the world to take responsibility for taking urgent measures to minimize the negative impact of the human factor on our planet.

    The required aspects necessary for parliaments to solve environmental problems were also listed. Among them, strengthening the interaction of the parliaments of the countries on the harmonization of legislation in the field of ecology and climate change, supporting the implementation of the Paris Agreement, achieving the retention of the increase in global average temperature below 2 degrees Celsius.

    At the same time, the Chairman of the Senate focused the attention of the participants on the need to create favorable conditions for investments in "green" technologies and related infrastructure.

    The conference considered organizational issues and made decisions on the formation of Bureaus and Standing committees of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as on granting international organizations observer status with the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement.

    At the end of the event, the Geneva Declaration was adopted, summarizing its results.
