Politico: The United States will accelerate the nuclear power plant construction program on the Moon

U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Acting Head of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Sean Duffy is set to announce plans this week to accelerate a program to build a nuclear reactor on the moon.

According to the Report, this was reported by the Politico newspaper with reference to the documents at its disposal.

According to her, the agency's directive states that the first country to build a nuclear power plant on the Moon will be able to "declare a restricted zone, which will significantly limit the capabilities of the United States." In this regard, NASA will begin searching for a contractor to build a 100-kilowatt nuclear reactor, which is planned to be launched into space by 2030.

"We are talking about winning the second space race," a senior NASA official told the newspaper.

It is noted that the United States also plans to accelerate the abandonment of the International Space Station and its replacement with commercial stations by 2030. Several companies, including Axiom Space, Vast and Blue Origin, have come forward with a proposal to satisfy NASA's request.
