Damaged banknote: what should I do if the banknote is torn, dirty or crumpled?

    Finance 15 November 2023 2086

    Money torn apart and glued together must be accepted at any point of sale.

    But only if the glued parts of the money belong to one banknote. For example, if a bill of 100 thousand soums is torn, then only the torn part of this particular bill can be glued to it (not the torn part from another bill of 100 thousand soums), the Ministry of Justice reports.

    In addition, the following notes can also be considered usable, must be accepted for payment without hindrance and transferred to banks as revenue:

    • banknotes with holes or tears in any part, worn paper (thinned by friction and become soft), stains, various drawings and inscriptions;
    • banknotes doused with coloring substances or acid, changed their natural color, burnt, painted or painted;
    • banknotes that have retained at least 55 percent of their total area.
