The increase in US duties on steel and aluminum has entered into force

    The tariff rate on steel and aluminum imports to the United States is increasing from 25% to 50%, according to an order signed by the US president. The United Kingdom is being removed from this regime.

    US President Donald Trump has approved an increase in duties on imported steel and aluminum from 25% to 50%. The White House announced on Tuesday, June 3, that the head of the American state had signed the relevant order.

    "I have determined that it is necessary and appropriate to raise the tariff rate on imports of steel products and steel derivatives, as well as aluminum products and aluminum derivatives ... starting at 12.01 p.m. East Coast time on June 4, 2025," the document says.

    It further states that the United Kingdom is withdrawing from this regime in order to ensure the implementation of the Agreement on Economic Prosperity between Washington and London dated May 8.

    The new duties came into force on Wednesday, June 4, at 6:00 a.m. Central European time. dw.com.
