The President of the Senate held talks with the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia

    The Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia Terhi Hakala.

    During the meeting, various areas of Uzbekistan's relations with the European Union were considered, in particular, trade and economic issues, ensuring human rights and freedoms, and the development of inter-parliamentary ties.

    It was emphasized that effective dialogues organized within the framework of the Parliamentary Cooperation Committee "European Union - Uzbekistan" are an important mechanism for bringing inter-parliamentary relations to a new level. A proposal has been put forward to develop and adopt a separate plan of practical measures between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and the European Parliament for 2024.

    During the conversation, attention was focused on the issues of economic cooperation as a priority area. At present, the trade turnover continues to grow steadily. Since the beginning of the year, it has increased by 35%. Major investment projects are being implemented with leading European companies. The "GSP+" regime has become a stimulating factor for the export of high-quality Uzbek goods to the European market. From this point of view, an exchange of views took place regarding the extension of this regime for a new period.

    It was noted that the dialogue established at the regional level, in particular, the format of cooperation "Central Asia - the European Union" has become an important platform for supporting the further development of relations.

    Proposals such as strengthening cooperation between the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Countries with the European Union were discussed. It was stressed that the next meeting of the Dialogue, which is planned to be held in Brussels jointly with the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, is of great importance. It was noted that this event will allow to get acquainted with the experience of the European Union in the field of gender equality, promotion of women's rights and interests, and will also become an impetus for a new stage of cooperation.

    At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to enrich the multifaceted cooperation with practical content and ensure the consistency of mutual dialogues.
