The pace of transformation is already evident at the airport, where new modern terminals are being built with an investment of $140 million.
The project was presented during the President’s visit to the region last year, and today construction works are progressing at an accelerated pace.
The current airport can no longer cope with the growing passenger flow. The new three-story terminal will increase passenger traffic by 2.5 times. It will feature modern border control and visa processing areas, a business lounge, commercial and public spaces, a medical station, and duty-free shops.
At the same time, a large cargo terminal is under construction, designed to handle up to 50 tons of freight per day and ensure exports to 90 countries worldwide. Most importantly, it will make it possible to establish a unified cargo system for Fergana Valley, significantly strengthening the region’s export and transit potential.
Thus, only this year, Namangan region expects to attract 1.5 million foreign tourists and more than 2 million domestic visitors, as well as increase the volume of service exports to $210 million. At the same time, exports from the neighboring Andijan and Fergana regions are also growing.
To expand the airport’s capacity, the fleet of specialized equipment is being upgraded, which will allow for the reception and servicing of various types of aircraft. In addition, the project provides for the construction of a catering complex, a fueling station, and other infrastructure facilities. The new terminals are scheduled to be commissioned next year.
The President emphasized the need for the comprehensive development of the area surrounding the airport. As is customary in leading countries around the world, modern hotels, shopping and entertainment centers, as well as a wide range of related services, should appear here. Special attention has been instructed to be given to the creation of convenient parking facilities and service areas to ensure maximum comfort for visitors.
