Tashkent forms the agenda for the development of transport and transit interconnectedness of Central Asia

    On October 26-27, Tashkent hosts the 27th meeting of the Working Group of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) on the development of transport and logistics connectivity in the region.

    On the first day of the event, the meeting participants discussed the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on the SPECA region, methods of overcoming such challenges, as well as national and international projects and initiatives in the field of transport infrastructure.

    Representatives of Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan exchanged experience in the field of effective organization and management of road and railway infrastructure, air transport and agreed to develop existing and new transport corridors in the region.

    During the event, representatives of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe announced their readiness to provide technical assistance to SPECA countries to improve infrastructure, ensure road safety and develop international corridors.

    On October 27, within the framework of the event, it is planned to discuss UN regulatory documents in the field of transport, transport and trade standards, prospects for digitalization of the sector and other issues, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
