Chicago-area Tesla charging stations lined with dead cars in freezing cold

Desperate Tesla owners in and around Chicago were seen trying to charge their vehicles with no luck amid frigid temperatures that have gripped the Midwest.

Electric cars, of any type, do not like the cold: some have problems starting the engine, and others have reduced power reserve and battery charging speed. But it is rare that an electric car does not charge at all. The people of Chicago also faced these problems.

Due to the cold temperature in the city, Electric cars started to lose power very quickly, and because of the cold weather, all the "Supercharger" stations are also out of order, so there is no possibility to charge the cars.

Many electric cars that came to charge were left at stations with empty batteries. Some Tesla owners are forced to call a tow truck to take their electric car to a local Tesla service center. On the Tesla App, most Supercharger stations are reporting that they are all full.

Various opinions about this incident are circulating on the Internet. In particular, electric car owners have not prepared their batteries for charging, although the company recommends doing so especially in cold weather. However, as Electrek points out, battery preparation should be done automatically at the command of the navigation system, that is, after entering the Supercharger station. So either this feature didn't work for some reason, or that's not the problem.

The problem may be in the charging station itself, which cannot withstand the cold. Because even in Norway, where it is not hot, there are no shortage of Tesla electric cars, and such a problem has not been observed in them.

Tesla Company has not yet made an official comment on this.
